WGUR 95.3 FM
I have been a volunteer DJ on Georgia College’s college radio station WGUR 95.3 for three years and host my own radio show, Get In The Groove, every Tuesday from 3:30-5:30 PM. On Get In The Groove, I display my passion for music by talking about and playing songs and artists that I love for have significant meaning in my life. I also use this platform to spread Mental Health Awareness where I educate listeners on the severity of Mental Health on college campuses and within the LGBTQIA+ community and give tips on dealing with anxiety and depression as a busy college student. As an openly gay person who personally struggles with mental health issues, it brings me so much joy to help those struggling as well. Learning how to entertain, educate, and bring a welcoming voice over the radio has brought self confidence and technical skills in managing sound panels, audio, and radio software.
WGUR 95.3 Web and Social Media Manager
I am the current WGUR Web and Social Media Manager where I have been employed by Georgia College and State University for a year. Through managing social media, I have learned how to communicate with other businesses, brand an organization thoroughly, and stay consistent in posting new information as well as responding to the public regularly. I have also learned website design skills and keep current dates, events, and videos up to date. This has provided me with the opportunity to organize Sounds of the South, a music festival put on by WGUR. During Sounds of the South, I contacted bands and organized where each stage was set up in downtown Milledgeville and the times each band was playing.
Covid Testing and Research Center
In Summer of 2021 and 2022, I worked at a Covid Testing and Research Center where I was trained to administer vitals and give free covid tests. I would then input my files into a data base that plotted the records into a software which was then interpreted by the CDC for research. This exposed me to experience with data research in Public Health and allowed me to help my community in Atlanta by offering free testing to anyone, regardless of insurance policy. Working alongside health workers was an honor and something I will never forget.
Restaurant Industry Experience
I worked as a runner and bus boy at a local breakfast cafe, Eggs Up Grille from 2015 to 2019. At Eggs Up Grille, I learned the importance of time management and how to work under pressure while being fast and efficient. I also worked at Purpose Snackery from 2016 to 2019, a restaurant that primarily focuses on snack foods and frozen yogurt. At Purpose Snackery, I was a server which taught me vital communication skills, multitasking, and staying detail oriented.
