Summer 2023

Summer 2023

Throughout this summer, I will be finishing up course requirements I need to be able to graduate in Fall 2023. Many of these courses will help me obtain much needed knowledge and requirements to prepare for my future career in Mass Communication and Digital Media. Currently, I am enrolled in three Summer 2023 classes: Ethics and What We Eat, Web Design Tools, and Spanish and Culture IV. Each of these courses will help me excel in required skills that I will need for potential jobs. In my Ethics and What We Eat class, I am actively challenging my view of food and questioning why we eat what has been presented to us since we were children. Since it is a philosophy-based class, I am using my highly intuitive brain to decipher questions that I have never acknowledged as my reality. Many of these topics consists of animal agriculture, American health problems, capitalism, and global food insecurity. This has helped me become more detail oriented in my everyday decision-making skills and to tap into my inner self when processing new information. In my Web Design Tools class, I am learning the essential elements of creating and designing a website from the ground up. Some of these elements consist of software’s like HTML, CSS, and WordPress. As a current Web & Social Media Manager for my university’s radio station, WGUR 95.3, I have already developed several skills in managing websites and online personnel. Some requirements for this position consist of updating all current social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter daily, and uploading important dates, blogs, images, and videos to the website when needed. Although these skills have been useful, I am further strengthening my web design skills by dissecting the inner workings of how websites are developed, and actively creating my own designs through web coding. Having some background in computer science while managing a website is crucial for a successful web design. Since taking this course, I have applied some information I have learned to the radio stations websites to help strengthen its appearance to the public eye. In June, I will be finishing my foreign language requirement by taking Spanish and Culture IV to solidify my Spanish abilities and strengthen my confidence in fluidity while speaking aloud. This will be useful in my career since I may have to work with international clients who may live in a Spanish speaking country. I am excited to finish these classes and spend much needed time with my friends and family as well!
